In the first two years on site, we unfortunately had to realize that it rains very frequently and, moreover, quite heavily in this region, especially in spring.
As the house had far too small roof overhangs and the walls are also thin at the top and thick at the bottom, it rained very heavily on the outer walls. The walls, built from boulders with very thin mortar, virtually absorbed the moisture and were all too happy to pass it on to the inside. In short, there was an urgent need for action.
But: a completely new roof just because of the damp? We simply didn’t have the motivation for that. So we ended up killing two birds with one stone: by raising the roof by half a meter, the usability of the attic rooms was improved immensely at the same time. The garden shed was also given a new roof at the same time.
The plan was put into practice in a joint Polish-Italian-German operation. Quite heavy rain during the renovation phase made our work more difficult. In addition, several rooms had to be repainted afterwards due to water damage.
However, our efforts have paid off. We are extremely satisfied with the result. The two attic rooms, which were previously only of limited use, are now large and bright rooms with a cozy atmosphere.
